Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.
Exodus 34:30 ESV

Moses met with God, and his face shone. We meet with God in His Word, by His Spirit, and do our faces shine? I have had people comment on how happy I seem, and I seem to remember one eccentric stranger once commenting on my “positive aura”!

But in these fearful days, are we as God’s people clothed with fear, or with the glory of God? We should so reflect the glory of God that it even alarms people how calm and joyful we are in these days of panic and anxiety. If we know the Sovereign Lord, we have no need to be afraid.

Many people assume that God is only angry and judgemental. They assume that if and when they meet Him they’ll cringe in fear and, in the words of Scripture, cry out to the rocks to hide them from His fearful blazing holiness. It doesn’t need to be like that though.

When Moses met God, He revealed Himself to him as compassionate, gracious, merciful, and loving. If we fear Him, He will remove our fears and clothe us in His glory, so that we cannot help but reflect it to those around us. May we be clothed in His glory rather than fear, both now and forevermore, amen!

“Almighty Lord, we praise You for Your grace and favour to us in our distress. Please remove our fear and cover us in Your glory, to the praise of Your name and the wonder of the world, amen”
