When the wicked dies, his hope will perish, and the expectation of wealth perishes too.

Proverbs 11:7 ESV

What do you hope for? Wealth? What good is wealth when death comes knocking? Health? Even if we live to a ripe old age, we cannot escape death, unless Christ returns first. Happiness? Jesus said “blessed (happy) are those who mourn (are sad), for they will be comforted”.

Jesus went as far to pronounce woe on those who are rich and laugh now because they’ve had their consolation and will mourn and weep. Paul said that if Christ had not been raised, we are the most pitiful people for having a false hope. But because Jesus did rise from the dead, people who don’t have hope in Him have no real hope and are the most pitiful people.

This virus has really sharpened people’s perspectives and priorities. What’s the point striving for the next new thing when we could be dead next week?! “Only one life, will soon be past, only what’s done for Jesus will last”.

We came to this world with nothing, and we leave with nothing except faith, hope and love if we belong to Jesus. Otherwise it’s just dust to dust, judgement and condemnation to anticipate. Jesus is the only lasting hope for the world.

“Almighty Lord, may we put our faith, hope and love in You because we ultimately have nothing if not for You. We cry out to You for mercy and deliverance, in Jesus’ name, amen”

  1. Happiness is dependent on our situation. The joy of serving Christ is much deeper. It is, and will forever be, eternal! All things apart from Christ will fade. Wealth has many facets. Worldly wealth fades. But the treasure we have in earthen vessels, (Christ in us) is far more worthy than any currency on Earth! Thanks for the reminder!!
